Are you wondering whether to attend this year's NSC Congress & Exposition
because you've seen it all before? You're in for a surprise! While our
educational sessions are more plentiful - and focused - than ever (see our
Blockbuster listing later in this issue), Connections '97: Your World
Safety NetworK promises many new features not in past lineups. Take a look:
* The newly opened McCormick Place-South will house the 85th Annual
Congress, with a more open architecture, improved meeting rooms and better
food options.
* Global awareness at Congress has never been keener, with two special
symposia: an "Inter-American Safety Forum and an "International Workshop
on Agriculture Safety & Health Training Needs of Developing Nations."
Many Congress sessions, including all keynote sessions, will officially
offer Spanish simultaneous interpretation for the first time. Also, our
first World Safety Day Luncheon will honor the planet's nearly 40 national
safety councils.
* An expanded NSC Pavilion on the expo floor will bring together the
Council's many resources in one place - from newly strengthened occupa-
tional emphases to invigorated membership options to "New Horizons"
research displays.
* A special spouse/partner track will include a dedicated keynote session
on Monday, Oct. 27, targeted blockbuster and specialty sessions, and first
aid/CPR training.
* NSC-TV and Safety News Daily provide a two-punch media premiere that
will spotlight industry trends and personalities. Look for NSC-TV on
monitors throughout the show and on your hotel television. Safety News
Daily, a trade-show tabloid, will be distributed at McCormick Place and
many hotels.
* Cotrgress Night Out has seldom looked more appealing, staged this year
at Chicago's Lakefront gem, Navy Pier. The $25 ticketed event, themed
Safe Home Chicago, provides great value -"neighborhood" food, continuous
entertainment, boat cruises, an IMAX theater experience and even the
world's largest Ferris wheel for the best skyline view in town!
* Tour are offered two ways, with visits to traditional Chicago attrac-
tions and to occupational sites. comfirmed occupational tours include
the famous "Deep Tunnel" water-reclamation project, Chicago's 911 Crisis
Center, a Cook County Jail Walk and the innovative McCormick Hyatt cons-
truction site. In addition, seseral of Chicago's largest corporations
will open their doors to safety tours. Stay tuned for further developments.
* The Safety & Health Hall of Fame, now housed by the National Safety
Council, will assume new prominence. This year's awards dinner will be
held at the posh Mid America Club on the 80th floor of Chicago's Amoco
Building.
* A Sunday, Oct. 26, interfaith service is open to all attendees who will
celebrate rn spirited music and reflections on safety from scrirtures and
leaders of several religions. Highly recommended.
As you can see, our l997 Congress & Exposition is living proof that
the National Safety Council is connecting in a multitude of ways to
be "Your World Safety Network."
