The EPA is reminding owners and operators of underground storage tanks
that they are required to meet federal requiremenrs for upgrading, closins
or replacing their thank by Dec. 22, 1998
Owners installing thanks on or before that date are required to protect
them against corrosion, spills and overfill -- or properly close them.
Owners installing tanks after that date are required to have those prote-
ctions in place when the tanks are installed.
EPA inspctors will be visiting facilities during the next several months
to remind owners and operators about the deadline. The EPA will not grant
extensions.
