Who programme complements the ISSA prevention concept

Some 120 million occupational accidents occur world - wide each year
and lead to the death of 200,000 people. In addition, between 67 and 157
million people contract diseases each year at the workplace. Whereas in
industrial countries it is primarily the number of people suffering from
allergies that is increasing. in third world countries, the majority of
workers do not even have access to health sevices.

Against this background, the World Health Organization (WHO) has drawn
up a Global Strategy on Occupational Health for All. Its objective is,
by the year 2000 in countries with a positive safety training, not only
to reduce the number of occupational injuries but also to reduce the
difference between high - risk and low - risk branches. In the other
countries, all necessary statutory and other measures should be taken in
order to permit the development of positive trends. The WHO has
formulated ten priority objectives. Its strategy is laid out in 97
points, beginning with the right to health for all workers and
concluding with the evaluation of the results in the year 2000. At that
point, further steps should be outlined. The measures and objectives of
the WHO strategy follow the same thrust as that outlined in the ISSA
prevention concept. In this context, they form an important complement
  to the ISSA approach.
